Passive mode
One really smart feature of these headphones is that they can operate as passive headphones when they aren't switched on. This is perfect for times when you run out of batteries but still want to listen to your music.

Sturdy construction
Sony have done a great job ensuring that they built a product which is good for taking out-and-about with you. Other brands are a similar price but don't feel anywhere near as well made. It even has screws holding it together rather than just glue.

Monitor function
Allows you to hear surrounding sound without taking off your headphones. Just press the button on the side to temporarily mute your music. A very handy feature!

How they work

Their ability to reduce background noise comes from a noise cancelling circuit. When switched on this senses outside noise using built-in microphones and then sends an equal-but-opposite cancelling signal out to the headphones. The end result is that you can enjoy whatever it is that you're listening to.
